Hi Dustin,
Following our conversation earlier, I am following up on the attachment of the ridge beam (LVL)
to the Bent beam. Your detail calls for the LVL at the ridge to fully bear upon the Steel Bent
Beam. The LVL at the ridge was installed long before the Bent beam, and when the Bent was
hoisted into place the apex of that beam was approximately 1" shy of the ridge LVL. We
shimmed this 1" gap to allow the ridge to bear on the bent. Please confirm that is acceptable.

Also on the same detail — as we discussed, we were unable to get a plate welded vertically from
the top of the Bent into the LVL at the ridge, and bolt through with a 1/2" bolt through the LVL,
since the bent could not be hoisted into place with that tab welded on. We could not get a weld
in that apex after the fact for lack of access, either. So we turned the plate 90 degrees and
welded it along the top of the bent parallel to the rafter pack above the Bent, and screwed that
plate into the rafter pack since through bolting was not possible. See the image below:

We used Simpson LRU28Z hangers to tie the rafters to the LVL ridge beam, and where we
connected the rafter 5-pack directly above the Bent Beam, we used Simpson L90's in addition to
screwing the pack of 5 rafters together and into the LVL, to secure against uplift.
The L90 hangers were also used to secure the rafter pack to the 2-pack of 2x12's at the eave
whereas the other single joists took LUS28Z hangers.
Please confirm these slight modifications based on field conditions are all acceptable.
Best,
Judd
