The window will be replaced with a man-door. The existing door will be replaced with a new 3-panel lift and slide door. The existing opening sizes are to remain except at the sill of the window. That area (less than 5sq.ft.) will be removed to facilitate the new door. At the front door the existing structural column will be removed. A new column and a beam will be added to transfer the existing load to the exterior walls of the house. The existing stone patio outside the main level bedroom will be removed and that area will be excavated out. A new gym will be built that connects to the lower level. The excavation will be done in a way that does not damage the existing snow-melted driveway or the existing foundation of the house. Soil nailing will be used to support the existing driveway and to stabilize the site around the new addition. A matrix of concrete foundation walls will be built to create the new gym space. The roof of the new gym space will be at the same elevation of the existing stone patio that is to be removed. The exterior surface of the new gym roof will be a stone material so that the new exterior patio space will be very similar to the current patio condition. The City of Aspen permit process works as follows: Completeness Review: I will be reviewing your permit application for completeness in the next 5 business days. I will follow up with you directly if I need any additional information. Submittal Fees: Once your permit is deemed complete, I will provide you with a list of all permit submittal fees that are due. Your permit will not be placed into our review queue until payment of all submittal fees is received. Permit Review: Your permit will be placed in our review queue on the date that the submittal fee payment is received. Each review agency triggered for the review will either approve the permit or issue comments that you are required to address prior to their approval. You can see the status of all reviews by going into your permit on the portal, clicking on ‘Related,’ and scrolling down to ‘Reviews.’ Comment Response: Once you have addressed all agency comments, both in writing and on your plans, you will resubmit all documents via the portal. Just go into your permit, scroll down to the bottom of the page, and use the ‘Add more’ button. You must notify me when you have uploaded your files for me to know that you have resubmitted. You can use the portal’s Chatter feature (see below). Issuance: Once all agencies have approved your permit, you will be notified that it is time to pay your permit issuance fees. Once you do so, your approved plans and permit documents will be sent to you electronically. Additional Important Information: Only after I perform a completeness review and submittal fees are paid will your permit be accepted into our system as a formal submission. At that time, it will be put into the permit work queue. I may need to meet with you—either in person, over the phone, or via a virtual meeting—before I can finish my completeness review to ensure that I have a full understanding of your project’s scope. If you need to contact me about your permit, I encourage you to use the Chatter feature on your permit on the applicant portal. When you use Chatter, I get an email, but it also gets attached to the permit record in the back office. So, anyone looking at the permit can see the conversations. This will be very helpful if someone else needs to get involved with your permit. To use Chatter: Open your permit on the portal. In the ‘Share an update…’ box, type @, then start typing my name.
