Re: 931 Gibson Outside Air Requirements and mechanical comment respnses to: 0037-2019-
BRES_931Gibson_BuildingCommentl
Mr.Justin Hahn,
We write this letter to clarify the ventilation option to be utilized at the Gibson residence, and further define the final
minimum outside air requirements under this option, and according to equation 4-9 of 2015 IMC section 403.3.2.1, as
suggested within the BuildingCommentl. A single energy recovery unit (ERV) shall be installed to deliver the required
outside air and exhaust utilizing a balanced ventilation system strategy. The footprint is approximately 6,988 square
feet and there are 6 bedrooms—we have plugged these metrics into equation 4-9 and determined the minimum outside
air required for the home to be 263 cubic feet per minute (CFM). At least 33 CFM shall be exhausted from each of the
(8) shower and water closet rooms, and at least 44 CFM fresh air would be delivered to each of the (6) bedrooms.
The balanced outside air ventilation system shall be operated to supply the required rate of ventilation and exhaust air
continuously during any period the residence is occupied and turn off only when the residence is unoccupied.
It is our hope this meets the intent of the code and clarifies the two mechanical comments, but if you have any further
questions, please don't hesitate to give me a call.
Happy Holidays, Sincerely,
