Architect’s Reponses: Item #1 (GWB Removal/Asbestos): As shown on Sheet A.1, “Demolition & New Work Floor Plans”, we have calculated that less than 32 sf of GWB shall be removed from the premises in preparation for the proposed work scope, thus no asbestos testing & report is required. If we discover otherwise, work shall be halted until an asbestos test & report is obtained, and additional steps are informed by the report. Item #2 (Hearth Extension): As shown on Sheet A.1, “Demolition & New Work Floor Plans”, we indicate required dimensions for the hearth extension and list the procedure to determine the appropriate installation requirements after the existing substrate conditions are uncovered and determined. Final hearth extension installation will be according to either the original Superior Fireplace Co. Mdl. 1038 installation manual or 2021 IBC fireplace requirements. Item #3 (Front Entry Door U-value Requirement): Also shown on Sheet A.1, “Demolition & New Work Floor Plans”, and as noted by the Building Reviewer, Linzhi Douglass, the opaque wood Front Door is exempt from U-value rating per 2021 IECC R402.3.4 if the assembly is less than 40 SF. As the door is 3’x8’ = 24 SF, it is exempt. 08/11/2023
