Re: 810 W Smuggler Historical Topographic Interpolation
The purpose of this memorandum is to describe how Woody Creek Engineering, LLC (“WCE”) derived
historical contour elevations for the vacant lot at 810 W Smuggler.
WCE researched historical photography from the area on file at the Aspen Historical Society. WCE lo-
cated two photos of the area prior to development. The first photo was taken from an airplane and shows
the area from Smuggler north to the music tent (see Figure 1.) The second photo was taken from Red
Mountain (see Figure 2).

The second photo shows a downhill slope from Smuggler St. north and from 8th St west.
WCE then downloaded Pitkin County’s 2’ contours. WCE assumed that the grade of Smuggler St. and 8th
St are much the same as they were when the photos were taken. WCE connected the contours from 8th St.
to Smuggler St. WCE assumed that the small hill shown in the photos was generally located at the loca-
tion of 800 and 810 W Smuggler St. WCE assumed the slope of the hill was located approximately at the
NW corner of 800 W Smuggler as it is today.
The resulting historical topographic topography is attached as Exhibit 1. PDF files of the photos are also
attached.
