Existing Conditions The area of focus for this study includes the area south of the existing impervious patio on the south side of the existing residence. Woody Creek Engineering prepared Civil documents , date Mash 1, 2018, for the property, to include design drawings and a Major Grading and Drainage Report, in support of the constructed residence. Sopris Engineering prepared the Grading and Drainage As Built Survey for these recent improvements. The Grading and Drainage Certificate was submitted to the City as part of a Temporary Certificate of Occupancy dated May 19th, 2021 and updated in support of a final Certificate of Occupancy dated July 2, 2021. The exi4t ng grog Ana cover within the area of stud consists of landscape lathm area, as illustrated in Figure 1 below. Currently, stormwater runoff generated from the proposed pool area generally flows to the south over well vegetated ground cover with slopes ranging between 10%-15% and ultimately discharges into the Roaring Fork River. Figure 1: Existing Poo/ Patio and Lawn Area A subsoil study prepared by l-t-P Kumar G®otechnical Engineering, dated June 2 , 2017 was prepared in support of the recently constructed residence. Boring logs provided within the report indicate the soils in the area consist of approximately 6" of topsoil overlying medium dense to dense, silty sand, gravel and cobbles with probably boulders. This geotechnical study included a percolation test which indicates perc rates of approximately 4 to 8 minutes per inch (15 to 7.5 inches per hour). 502 Main Street Suite A3 Carbondale, CO 81623 • (970) 704-0311 Fax (970) 704-0313 civil consultants Proposed Improvements The proposed improvements associated with this project primarily include the construction of a new pool on the south side of the existing impervious patio and construction of an at grade bioretention cell to treat the increased impervious area for a total estimated amount of disturbance of 1,550 sf. A slight modification to an existing bioretention cell near the base of the existing patio steps is required to accommodate the proposed pool area. Additionally, the integratiE3n of the short landscape rock wall south of the proposed pool will facilitate the proposed bioretention cell while ensuring the proposed construction does not encroach within the 15-ft top of slope setback to the south. Post Basin-1 is a developed conditions design drainage basin primarily associated with the proposed pool and the proposed water quality treatment bioretention cell (BRC-1) south of the pool. BRC-1 is designed to collect and retain the required water aauality capture volume for II'e tributary impervious runoff, consistent will',, Section 8.5.3.1 of the URMP, The design of BRC-1 included an underdrain system with an impervious liner and perforated underdrain given its proximity to the proposed pool foundation. The perforated underdrain is designed to collect and route the filtered runoff to the hillside south of the proposed improvements, with the underdrain pipe daylighting to surface above the top of slope setback. Storm events generating runoff in excess of the water quality capture volume will simply overtop the proposed boulder landscape wall, which acts as a level spreader_ Runoff will then sheet flow across vegetated ground cover towards the Roaring Fork River, consistent with existing drainage patterns. EX Basin-1 is a developed conditions design drainage basin primarily associated with the existing spa patio and the modified existing bioretention cell area. Runoff generated by the impervious pool area is designed to sheet flow directly to the modified existing bioretention cell (EX-BRC) directly to the south, near the base of the existing spa patio stairs. Modifications to the existing bioretention cell are to be made in kind with the existing methods and materials approved with the original Woody Creep Engineering design. Minor modifications will be made to the overall shape and design depth to ensure the water quality capture volume is provide for the tributary impervious runoff, consistent with Section 8.5.3.1 of the iURMP. Storm events generating runoff in excess of the water quality capture volume will overtop the bioretention cell edge, sheet flows across the well vegetated hillside to the south, and ultimately discharges to the Roaring Fork River consistent with existing drainage patterns.
