My goals with the comment on the permit were first and foremost to avoid hanging utilities on the historic structure and second to reduce visual impact. I understand now that hanging the meter and disconnect on a fence isn't an option. Using a frame or pedestal as allowed by Utilities might still be preferred over attaching to the Pan Abode. RECEIVED 2 09/13/2021 ASPEN BUILDING DEPARTMENT Is it possible to put this equipment on the approved type of frame, along the alley? Does it have to be immediately adjacent to the Pan Abode? Just to confirm, you have no choice but to put the electrical panel on the wall of the Pan Abode? No other options? If you could clarify all of this and create a brief memo (building on what you've already put together)that can be shared with Jeff, that would be great. I want to make sure we've looked at all reasonable options. Thank you! Hopkins HPC Permit Comments and wanted to touch base with you re: the request in italics below: Please study other locations for meters and disconnect, including free standing location, hanging on a fence, etc. Please find summary of findings attached and below. I'd like to get your thoughts either via email or on a quick call before we finalize the response. Please let us know of preference and I'll send an invite. I'm open to talk at any point this afternoon, at 3p MST Weds or at any point Thurs. • Benefits of the current proposed location include the chimney acting to screen the visual of the equipment from the road, proximity to the basement mechanical room to limit pathing through the building and greatest distance from existing windows that will accommodate the necessary mounting dimensions without being on the front corner. • Page 30 (please see attached) of Aspen's electrical utility standards prohibits the mounting of meters to fences. They do show an option for a Unistrut frame or plywood-backed pedestal type support on page 69 (please see attached). Aesthetically this may not be an improvement as we can't deviate from the industrial plywood panel and 6"x6"wood post or unistrut frame construction. • Per electrical, we have an additional problem that even if we relocated the meter and disconnect,we still have the cabin's main electrical panel to deal with (tagged with C on the drawings). Per electrical this panel cannot be relocated off of the building to a pedestal or fence. It's just a question of whether the meter and disconnect are next to it. • There's an option we could do to save a bit of wall space, we could substitute a main circuit breaker inside the panel in lieu of the disconnect. Would reduce some of the clutter but there would still be two pieces of electrical equipment in that location. • Any screening would need to be removable/openable to allow code-required 3'working clearances in front of all electrical equipment. This would likely project beyond the face of the chimney and may look out of place. Any insight on the info above appreciated—please also let me know if you'd like a quick call to discuss.
