Aspen Recreation Advisory Committee Meeting Minutes:
December 2, 2025

Discussion items:
Master Plan and Capital Projects:
The master plan remains in progress, pending final direction and timing from the council.
Significant projects are being planned that will affect both the ARC and Ice Garden facilities.
These initiatives are designed to avoid disruptions to parking but will require periodic closures of
the aquatics area, specifically from mid-April to mid-June, and again in September. The work
will include removal and replacement of the pool deck, installation of new pipes and gutters
around the lap pool, resurfacing of the lap pool in September, and upgrades to the boiler and
electrical systems. The AIG cooling tower project is scheduled to commence in mid-April.
Throughout these periods, the ARC will remain operational with the exception of the aquatics
section and total closure in September.
Ice Updates:
The Fall Face Off event concluded successfully. Preparations are underway for the upcoming
Ice-Skating Competition, hosted by the Aspen Skating Club, and all leagues are currently active.
January will be particularly important for High School Sports, including hockey.
Ongoing discussion regarding the potential addition of outdoor ice to meet high demand. However,
careful consideration of associated costs and logistical requirements is necessary due to the
operational challenges involved.
Aquatics:
The Aquatics Supervisor has transitioned into a new role with Kids First, and efforts are underway to
implement a comprehensive transition plan. Revenue from private swimming lessons has declined
recently, attributed to the absence of a key staff member due to injury. The team is actively working
to enhance the private swimming lesson program. Additionally, the Aspen Gay Ski Week Closing
Party is scheduled for mid-January.
Programs, Day Camp, and Red Brick:
Upcoming events include Santa Day, with Day Camp and program staff demonstrating strong
performance.
Financial:
Winter passes are currently available for purchase. Final figures for 2025 will be determined in
early 2026. Revenue challenges are anticipated in 2026 because of ongoing projects.
