Removals are due to health, structure, and/or construction related activities. On 7/7/20, David Coon, Aspen City Forester, performed an inspection of trees being requested for removal at 800 Meadows Rd. in order to construct the new Boettcher/ Bayer building at the Aspen Institute. Trees to be retained will be protected per the Tree Preservation Report dated 5/20/2020 prepared by Aspen Tree Service and the specifications attached to this permit. Sidewalk alignments and details in the Gillespie St. right-of-way and in the new bus pickup are approved as shown on the Construction Set and Site Plan C 1.3 dated 6/19/2020 and the Cross Section Details C 5.7 dated 6/19/2020. The trees approved for removal have been assigned a value using a standard formula developed for all trees found within the City of Aspen. The formula is as follows: Value=$45.00 x 3.14 x (D/2)2, where D is the diameter of the tree at breast height. The total mitigation value assessed for the (22) trees to be removed per the Tree Removal Plan dated 4/8/2020 is $46,735. This amount will be partially offset by the planting of (35) trees on the property per the Landscape ( Planting ) Plan 4.8.2020 and the Aspen Tree Service Proposal dated 5/21/2020 at a cost of $32,320. Net mitigation due is $14,415 which must be paid cash in lieu prior to the release of this permit. ADDITIONAL CONDITIONS OF THIS PERMIT: Trees may not be removed until the associated building permit has been issued and up-to-date stamped tree permit submittal documents have been approved by the City Forester and stamped by the Building Dept. All subsequent rounds of reviews and change orders must be reviewed by the City Forester.
