*Field Inspection
Dear Mr. Marsh,
As requested, structural steel special inspection was conducted per the IBC 2015 Edition
- Chapter 17: Structural Tests and Special Inspection and the City of Aspen requirements. I
arrived on-site at 12:00 PM. I met with you to review project requirements and areas ready for
inspection
Continuous visual welding inspection was conducted on each end of the beam to column
Complete Joint Penetration (CJP) groove welded connections on the bent beam arch at the rear
of the residence. I observed all joint fit-up and preheat prior to welding. Mr. Travis Tulio with
West Elk Supply in Grand Junction, Colorado was the certified welder of record. The following
parameters were observed to be compliant with the requirements of the governing WPS:
• Base metal composition
• Filler metal composition
• Joint configuration and base metal preparation
• Joint fit-up
• Shielding gas and flow rate
• Root opening
• Preheat temperature
• Interpass temperature
• Welding current characteristics
• Amperage employed
• Voltage employed
Upon completion, I observed all CJP groove welds referenced to be in compliance with project
specifications and the visual inspection requirements as stated in Clause 8 of the AWS Dl.l
Welding Code - Steel: 2020 Edition.
