Mayor Stirling called the meeting to order at 4:45 p.m. with
Councilmembers Peters, Tuite, and Pendleton present.
RESOLUTION #24, SERIES OF 1990 - Purchase of Austin Property
This is a proposed acquisition of lots 3 - 6 of the Eames addition
below lift lA. Dave Myler reminded Council they have had previous
discussions about this property. There are 45 days from June 14th
to conduct a detailed evaluation of the possible projects and to
see if Council wants to proceed with the purchase. Myler said he
will have Glenn Horn assist him in putting together the feasibility
study. Myler said he will schedule a work session in July to
present these findings.
Myler pointed out there is a small structure on the lots which has
the lowest historic rating. Most of the lot is flat and is
surrounded by high density development. The lot is close to
everything and an ideal location for working residents to live.
This land is currently zoned R-15 and is bordered on two sides by
LTR.
Mayor Stirling asked if the housing planner is on board. Carol
O'Dowd, city manager, told Council the position will be filled in
the near future. Myler said the question is whether this 12,000
square feet lot can hold 13,000 square feet of development.
Councilman Tuite asked if there is an appraisal on the property.
Myler said he will ask Alice Davis to do this as part of the
Davis/Horn contract. Councilman Peters said this land is ap-
propriately located for affordable housing. Councilman Peters said
if the housing authority could not do the feasibility study, then
he would approve a minimum contract of $750 for the work.
Councilman Peters said he would like Horn to highlight the rezoning
issues if he does the study. Councilman Peters said he does not
want a duplication of the housing authority's work.
Councilwoman Pendleton moved to approve Resolution #24, Series of
1990; seconded by Councilman Tuite. All in favor, motion carried.
Council scheduled a work session July 16 at 7 p.m. on the
feasibility of developing the Austin property.
Council adjourned at 5:00 p.m.
