STAFF RECOMMENDATIONS/COUNCIL DECISIONS:
1. The special event committee recommends up to 4 street closures/year upon our
review. Any more would have to have Council review. Specific street closures
up to discretion of special event committee. Council agreed; however, they
noted there should be a GOOD emergency vehicle access plan. Certain
streets should NEVER be closed - Durant, Aspen, Mill, Main
2. Leaving Wagner Park as a park and NOT allow any new events there Council
feels Wagner Park is a great special event venue and we should allow new
special events there if warranted and if the park can take it. Council
requested staff come back with how much flooring would cost, storage and
installation issues
3. Sponsorship/signage
Amend Code to allow car placement/advertisement on public rights-of-
way in connection with events. Council Oked this on a trial basis; staff
needs to write guidelines incorporating acceptable locations, length of
use, size of signs, exclusivity
· Amend sign policy to allow more sponsor signage upon public rights-of-
way in connection with events. Council requested staff come back with
a code amendment to allow X number of signs for X number of total
square footage within the venue
· Amend light pole policy to allow banners on light poles within the
commercial core (not Main street) to make downtown look more festive
during events. Council approved allowing banners on light poles in
connection with an approved special event. Two blocks of the
eventors choice for 7 days
· Larger issue of naming rights, official car, etc. of Aspen should be a
Council decision Council agreed they did NOT want to sell naming
rights, having "official X of Aspen"
