MINUTES OF MAY 7~ 2003
Chairperson, Bill Dinsmoor called the meeting to order at 8:30 a.m.
Commissioners in attendance: Eric Cohen, Charles Kennedy, Andrew Kole,
John Start and Terry Butler. Jori Busch was excused.
DUCKY DERBY
Chris Bendon represented the Rotary Club. Chris requested the use ora 10
x 10 tent with merchandise to be sold from the tent and the inflatable duck'
to be on the mall July 26t~ through August sth.
John relayed that the inflatable duck and the little dU6i~S'{~ ~h~'~t}'~ams are
inappropriate for Aspen. He also said he feels pressured to give money.
The Ducky Derby is the only fund raises that raises funds for the right
things.
Chris relayed that there is one duck and one bid. Non-profit groups that sell
the ducks get 100% of the proceeds. Rotary members who sell ducks
deduct the overhead and the rest goes to the non-profits.
John said last year they were contemplating selling more ducks but thatiS ~'
not the case this year. ;
Eric said he feels they are selling the right amount of ducks and would
support the event. If more ducks are being sold next year then he would
have to re-think the event.
Bill said the event does raise money and it is nice to see the broad amount of
people getting involved.
MOTION: Eric moved to approve the Ducky Derby; second by Terry. All
in favor, motion carried.
SATURDAY MARKET
The board discussed the possibilities ora market coordinator and what job
description it would entail. The person would have to coordinate in the
morning, facilitate the demonstrations and coordinate the set up and take
down of the tables.
