RESOLUTION OF TEE CITY COUNCIL OF ASPS, ~LO~,
E~RESSI~ I~ER~ IN AEROBUS
WHEREAS, the City Council of Aspen, Colorado (hereinafter
"Council") has directed the Aspen Planning and Zoning Commission
and the Aspen/Pitkin Planning Office to update the 1966 Aspen
Area General Plan; and
WHEREAS, the Aspen Planning and Zoning Commission and
Aspen/Pitkin Planning Office are currently developing the Aspen
Area Comprehensive Plan: Transportation Element; and
WHEREAS, the Council is aware of the research which is being
conducted to acquire information on alternative transportation
vehicles; and
WHEREAS, a transportation mode known as "Aerobus", which is
developed by Vevey Engineering, Inc. of Switzerland, is a mode
which is of interest to many people in the community due to its
low impact on the environment and its attractiveness as a mode of
travel; and
WHEREAS, at the staff's request representatives of Vevey
Engineering, Inc. have visited the Aspen/Snowmass Area to
investigate, at a preliminary level, the potentials for Aerobus
in this area; and

WHEREAS, Vevey Engineering, Inc. and their representatives
Farland and Associates International feel that Aspen offers a
unique opportunity for Aerobus and would be willing to explore at
no cost to the community, preliminary cost of the system and
potential financing options, such as leasing or stock arrange-
ments, provided that the elected officials of Aspen, Pitkin
County and Snowmass express an interest in the system; and
WHEREAS, the Council feels that Aerobus offers significant
potential for the Plan and that we should invite Vevey and
Farland to investigate the cost and financing possibilities of
the Aerobus in the Aspen/Snowmass area at this time, while long-
range planning is proceeding.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE 1T RESOLVED by the City Council of the
City of Aspen, Colorado:
That it finds that Aerobus is a potential transportation
mode which appears to address many of the Community's transporta-
tion concerns, such as air quality, environmental impact and
attractive travel mode and should be considered as an alternative
by the consultant as part of the transit/transportation work in
progress.

That this resolution be transmitted to Vevey Engineering
Inc., along with similar resolutions from Pitkin County and the
Town of Snowmass Village for the purpose of showing interest in
Aerobus for the Aspen/Snowmass area and for the purpose of asking
Vevey to investigate cost and financing options for an Aerobus
application in the Aspen/Snowmass area.
