RESOLUTION NO. 88 - cQ.
RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF ASPEN, COLORADO
ADOPTING THE HISTORIC DISTRICT AND HISTORIC LANDMARK DEVELOPMENT
GUIDELINES OF THE CITY OF ASPEN
WHEREAS, the Aspen City Council (hereinafter "council") is
authorized through section 24-9.4(d) (2) of the Municipal Code to
adopt Historic District and Historic Landmark Development
Guidelines upon recommendation of the Aspen Historic Preservation
Committee; and
WHEREAS, the Aspen Historic Preservation Committee (herein-
after "HPC") adopted Resolution No. 87-2 recommending that
council adopt the Historic District and Historic Landmark
Development Guidelines, and also recommending that one (1) year
subsequent to adoption of the Guidelines, HPC shall thoroughly
review the document, hold a public hearing to obtain input from
citizens and recommend to Council any changes necessary to keep
the Guidelines current and functional; and
WHEREAS, a work session was held on November 19, 1987 by
council and HPC to discuss and comment upon the Guidelines; and
WHEREAS, a public hearing was held on December 14, 1987 by
Council to assist them in reviewing the Guidelines; and
WHEREAS, Council finds that the Guidelines are consistent
with the Aspen Area Comprehensive Plan: Historic Preservation
Element, adopted in October, 1986, and the historic designation
regulations in section 24-9 of the Municipal Code as revised by
Ordinance 11 (Series of 1987); and
WHEREAS, guidelines are recognized to be a necessary aid to
help create community awareness of the historic character of
Aspen's historic overlay districts and individual historic
landmarks, to inform owners of historic structures and structures
within historic districts of concepts of historic compatibility,
and to help the HPC review development activities associated with
historic landmarks and within the historic districts, but are
meant to be suggestions and not to have the legal effect of
regulations.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF ASPEN, COLORADO:
Section 1
That the Historic District and Historic Landmark Development
Guidelines be formally adopted and used by HPC for assistance in
review of development in historic overlay districts and involving
historic landmarks.
Section 2
That one (1) year subsequent to the adoption of the Guide-
lines HPC shall thoroughly review the document, hold a public
hearing to obtain input from citizens and recommend to Council
any changes necessary to keep the Guidel ines current and func-
tional.
section 3
That council makes a supplementary appropriation of $2,000
for reproduction of the Guidelines.

1988.
