RESOLUTION NO. \ q
(series of 1988)
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF ASPEN, COLORADO, OPPOSING THE
DEVELOPMENT OF SMUGGLER MOUNTAIN
WHEREAS, at a regularly scheduled meeting held on July 11,
1988, the City Council considered a referral from Pitkin County
requesting comment on two Low Impact Subdivision applications
(Smuggler Mountain Parcels A and B)
for the residential
development of approximately 185 acres on smuggler Mountain into
10 lots; and
WHEREAS, the City Council finds that the proposed siting of
homes on the face of Smuggler Mountain above the 8040 elevation
"Greenline" and the proposed road improvements including new "cut
and fill" areas will create negative visual impacts affecting
Aspen; and
WHEREAS, the city Council finds that this proposal may
create additional service costs for the City in the areas of
police, fire protection and future road maintenance costs if the
area is ever annexed; and
WHEREAS, the city Council is concerned about the status of
Smuggler Mountain Road and recommends that Pitkin County endeavor
to keep this road open for use by the general public; and
WHEREAS, the City Council generally opposes the development
of the wilderness and those areas near the City which provide
access to the wilderness.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF ASPEN, COLORADO:
