HomeMy WebLinkAboutresolution.council.019-88 RESOLUTION NO. \ q (series of 1988) A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF ASPEN, COLORADO, OPPOSING THE DEVELOPMENT OF SMUGGLER MOUNTAIN WHEREAS, at a regularly scheduled meeting held on July 11, 1988, the City Council considered a referral from Pitkin County requesting comment on two Low Impact Subdivision applications (Smuggler Mountain Parcels A and B) for the residential development of approximately 185 acres on smuggler Mountain into 10 lots; and WHEREAS, the City Council finds that the proposed siting of homes on the face of Smuggler Mountain above the 8040 elevation "Greenline" and the proposed road improvements including new "cut and fill" areas will create negative visual impacts affecting Aspen; and WHEREAS, the city Council finds that this proposal may create additional service costs for the City in the areas of police, fire protection and future road maintenance costs if the area is ever annexed; and WHEREAS, the city Council is concerned about the status of Smuggler Mountain Road and recommends that Pitkin County endeavor to keep this road open for use by the general public; and WHEREAS, the City Council generally opposes the development of the wilderness and those areas near the City which provide access to the wilderness. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ASPEN, COLORADO: section 1 The city council is opposed to the proposed subdivision of smuggler Mountain Parcels A and B and hereby recommends that pitkin County deny the applications as presented.
