A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF ASPEN
TO COMMIT RESOURCES TO ALLEVIATE THE PROBLEMS
OF GLOBAL WARMING OR THE GREENHOUSE EFFECT
RESOLUTION-20, 88-~
WHEREAS, the "Greenhouse Effect" has been identified as the
most serious environmental problem; and
WHEREAS, currently there does not exist any legislation at
the federal, state, or local level to respond to this problem;
and
WHEREAS, it is possible to trace the sources of this problem
to excessive C02 emissions, deforestation, and the creation of
gases caused by the use of chlorofluorocarbons in refrigeration
systems, air conditioners, insulation, and other products; and
WHEREAS, by Resolution 88-152 the Board committed to the
elimination of chemicals used in certain products; and
WHEREAS, by Resolution 88-152 The Board agreed to "commit
resources to alleviate the problems of global warming and the
greenhouse effect";
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the city council adopt
the "Plan to Implement Resolution 88-152, a copy of which is
attached; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that City Council hereby directs the
staff of Aspen to move immediately to investigate, and where it
is deemed appropriate, take those actions necessary to put into
action the elements of the Plan.
