HomeMy WebLinkAboutresolution.council.037-90 I. i:- I. ..- I' , A 6. - 47 RESOLUTION OF THE ASPEN CITY COUNCIL ENDORSING THE ASPEN PEDESTRIAN WALKWAY AND BIKEWAY PLAN Resolution No. 90 "';b-:::f-- WHEREAS, there is a growing need to reduce reliance upon the automobile to lessen congestion and improve air quality throughout the Aspen area, Colorado and the country, and WHEREAS, reducing auto traffic also improves the image of our community as a place of natural beauty, and WHEREAS, expanding the use of alternative modes of transportation reduces impacts of automobile circulation and resulting infrastructure costs, and WHEREAS, a pedestrian and bikeway system that minimi~es conflicts with automobiles creates a safer environment while enhancing the quality of life throughout the community, and provides increased recreational opportunities for locals and visitors alike, and WHEREAS, the City Council appointed the Neighborhood Advisory Committee to work closely with the Planning Office and winter and Company, Consultants, to develop the Aspen Pedestrian Walkway and Bikeway System Plan (hereinafter "Plan"), and WHEREAS, the Plan has developed into a comprehensive strategy to specifically meet Goal #4 of the Aspen city Council: "To reduce the use of and dependency on the automobile by expanding and maintaining bicycles and pedestrian paths. To encourage, facilitate, research and implement alternative methods of transportation for the residents and visitors of Aspen." :'. (e \It NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council endorses the "Aspen Pedestrian Walkway and Bikeway System Plan", and recommends its adoption by the Aspen Planning and Zoning commission. APPROVED by the Mayor and Council at its regular meeting on September 24, 1990.
