PP~r~<RED AT,TGNMENT FOR Tn~ V~T.T.~y LIGHT RAIL SYSTEM WHKW~J~S, the Aspen city Council, Pitkin County Board of County Commissioners, and Snow. ass Village Tow~ Council (hereinafter, "Elected Officials") implemented a public meeting process to gather community input regarding the alignment of a Valley Light Rail System (hereinafter, "VLR") through Pitkin County; W/~P~%S, the alignments are generally known as the Highway alignment and the Rio Grande alignment; WH~%S, the Elected Officials held a total of six (6) public meetings on the alignment issue in 1990/91: November 14, at the Red Roof Inn, Aspen; November 28, Snownass Village; November 29, Woody Creek; December 7, Co~%munity Center, Aspen; December 12, City Hall, Aspen; and January 30, City Hall, Aspen; WheREAS, through the public meeting process it became clear that it was difficult to develop a consensus for either alignment because each alignment addressed different, but important goals; WHEREAS, some Elected Officials felt that a more comprehensive understanding of the transportation system was required prior to making a decision on the alignment; and Wn/~REAS, the Elected Officials felt that it was critical to the VLR process that they make a decision on a preferred alignment for the VLE system through Pitkin County. Wh~REAB, the Elected Officials find that the vision of a Valley Light Rail is especially important and appropriate given our dependence on oil and our concerns regarding air quality. NOW, .~.-K~FORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Aspen City Council finds that the Rio Grande alignment is their preferred alignment. 1-N~RODUCED, READ AND ADOPTED as provided by law by the City Council of the City of Aspen on the 7th day of March, 1990. /William L.
