RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF ASPEN COLORADO
TO THE COLORADO DEPARTMENT
OF TRANSPORTATION REGARDING GUIDELINES FOR PIER
DESIGN OF THE MAROON CREEK BRIDGE
WHEREAS, the City Council of Aspen (hereinafter, "council")
have met with Colorado Department of Transportation (hereinafter,
"COOT") officials on a number of occasions to discuss the design
of the Maroon Creek Bridge;
WHEREAS, during past discussions Council has resolved all of
their outstanding concerns regarding the design of the Maroon Creek
Bridge except the design of the bridge's piers;
WHEREAS, Council's concerns revolved around whether or not a
single column or double column pier design would give the community
~ the most attractive and least obtrusive bridge; and
WHEREAS, the COOT Staff Bridge Branch developed six (6)
alternative designs, both single and double column, for Council's
review and consideration.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the city Council of Aspen
that they prefer what is know as Alternative 4. More specifically
the design of Alternative 4 is a two (2) column pier design, with
eight (8) sided columns (similar to the columns in Glenwood canyon)
which have a "hammer head" cap, the columns also include a
horizontal rustication treatment.
