HomeMy WebLinkAboutresolution.council.034-91 RESOLUTION NO. ~ (Series of 1991) A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF T~ CITY OF ASPEN, COLORADO, CANCELING THE PREVIOUSLY CALLED SPECIAL ELECTION SET FOR SEPTEM- BER 24, 1991. WHEREAS, on July 22, 1991, the City Council did adopt Resolution No. 30 (Series of 1991) calling for and setting a special municipal election for September 24, 1991, at which the electorate was to vote on the adoption of a new municipal excise tax; and ~fHEREAS, since the adoption of Ordinance No. 30 (Series of 1991), City Council has engaged in public meetings and negotia- tions with interested parties concerning the necessity of the proposed excise tax to provide a source of funding for a skier shuttle transportation system to serve the City of Aspen and the Town of Snow, ass Village; and $~HEREAS, viable alternatives to the imposition of the proposed excise tax to fund the skier shuttle transportation service have been discussed and presented to City Council and other interested parties; and SfHEREAS, in view of viable alternatives to the proposed excise tax City Council deems and declares that it would be in the public interest and welfare to cancel the previously sched- uled special election. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ASPEN, COLORADO, THAT: Section 1 The special municipal election scheduled to be conducted on September 24, 1991, shall be and is hereby canceled. Section ~ The city Clerk is hereby directed to suspend all prepara- tions for the September 24, 1991, special municipal elsction and is further directed to p~bliah notice of the cancellation of the special election in at least one newspaper having general circu- lation within the City of Aspen.
