A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF ~ CITY OF
ASPEN, COLORADO IN SUPPORT OF THE ASPEN REAL-
TIME RURAL INTELLIGENT VEHICLE HIGHWAY SYSTEM
(1VHS) GRANT PROPOSAL.
WHEREAS, The Aspen City Council cooperatively works together with Pitkin
County, the Town of Snowmass Village and RFTA on issues of common concern; and
WHEREAS, The Aspen City Council wants to limit the number of vehicle trips into
Aspen by implementing a valley-wide mass transit system and improving transit facilities;
and
WHEREAS, The Aspen City Council objectives are to develop a comprehensive
city and regional transportation corridor from the airport to town, in conjunction with the
Town of Snowmass Village, CDOT, Pitkin County and our citizens; and
WHEREAS, The City Council wants to ensure traffic projections and transportation
systems are consistent with the mandated reduction of PM-10 pollution as part of the
Environmental Impact Statement for State Highway 82; and
WHEREAS, The City Council is concerned about the safety of our citizens traveling
on State Highway 82; and
WHEREAS, The recently enacted Federal Intermodal Surface Transportation
Efficiency Act (ISTEA) provides funding for the development and implementation of
Intelligent Vehicle Highway System (IVHS); and
