series of 1992
AN ORDINANCE DESIGNATING THE HISTORIC CASTLE CREEK POWER PLANT, ~OW
CITY SHOP, AT 1080 POWER PLANT ROAD AS "H", HISTORIC LANDMARK
PURSUANT TO DIVISION 7, SECTION 7-701 OF CHAPTER 24 OF THE
MUNICIPAL CODE.
WHEREAS, the city of Aspen, owners of the historic Castle
Creek power Plant, now city Shop, located at 1080 Power Plant Road,
has filed an application for landmark designation pursuant to
Section 24-7-701 of the Municipal Code for the property located at
1080 Power Plant Road, described as follows:
A tract of land containing two (2) acres, more
or less, located in the northeast Quarter of
the Southwest Quarter of Section 12, Township
10 South, Range 85 West of the sixth P.M.,
pitkin County, Colorado, further described as
follows: Commencing at corner No. 1 from
which the west quarter corner of said section
12 bears north 80 degrees, 12 minutes, 48
seconds West 1732.95 feet, being also a point
which bears North 81 degrees 9 minutes East
428 feet from Corner No. 3 of the Holden
Tract, thence South 75 degrees 49 minutes East
346 feet to Corner No.2; thence North 17
degrees 31 minutes East 163.7 feet to Corner
No.3; thence North 47 degrees 46 minutes West
255.7 feet to corner No.4, thence North 75
degrees 49 minutes West 129.7 feet to Corner
No.5; thence South 14 degrees 11 minutes West
254 feet to the place of beginning, city of
Aspen, colorado; and
WHEREAS, the structure and property at 1080 power Plant Road
are listed in the 1980 Inventory of Historic sites and Structures,
as amended in 1986; and
WHEREAS, the Historic preservation Committee unanimously
recommended historic landmark designation at a duly noticed public
hearing on November 27, 1991; and

WHEREAS, the Aspen Planning and Zoning commission unanimously
recommended historic landmark designation at a duly noticed public
hearing on December 3, 1991; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 24-7-702, the city council has
found that the Landmark Designation Standards A, B, C, and F have
been met:
the site has historic association, the structure
reflects an architectural style that is unique, the structure
embodies
distinguishing
characteristics
a
significant
of
architectural type (Industrial), and the preservation of the
property is critical to the character of the Aspen community; and
WHEREAS, City council wishes to pursue those recommendati.ons
and complete the designation process.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF ASPEN, COLORADO:
Section 1

be and is hereby designated "H" Historic Landmark.
section 2
That the Zoning District Map be amended to reflect the rezoning
described in section 1 and the Planning Director shall be
authorized and directed to amend said map to reflect said rezoning.
Section 3
That the Planning Director shall be directed to notify the City
Clerk of such designation, who shall record among real estate
records of the Pitkin County Clerk and Recorder's Office a
certified copy of this ordinance.
section 4
That if any section, subsection, sentence, clause, phrase or
portion of this Ordinance is for any reason held invalid or
unconstitutional by any court of competent jurisdiction, such
portion shall be deemed a separate, distinct and independent
provision and such holding shall not affect the validity of the
remaining portions thereof..
section 5
That a public hearing on the Ordinance shall be held on the~J7
day of O-j2l-:Jl , 1992, at 5:00 p.m. in the City Council
Chambers, Aspen City Hall, Aspen, Colorado, fifteen (15) days prior
to which hearing notice of the same shall be published once in a
newspaper of general circulation within the City of Aspen.
