HomeMy WebLinkAboutresolution.council.094-98 ,,-., RESOLUTION NO, qf Series of 1998 A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING ACCEPTANCE OF PLATTE RIVER POWER AUTHORITY'S PROPOSAL TO SELL WIND ENERGY TO THE CITY OF ASPEN ELECTRIC UTILITY. WHEREAS, the City of Aspen wishes to support the further development of wind energy to reduce its commitment to purchase of fossil fuel power; and WHEREAS, the City of Aspen City Council approved a letter of intent to purchase the power output from a 600 kilowatt wind turbine to be constructed at Medicine Bow, Wyoming; and WHEREAS, the Platte River Power Authority responded to the City's letter of intent with a proposal to sell wind energy from a 660 kw wind turbine to be financed, constructed, and operated by Platte River Power Authority at its Medicine Bow, Wyoming wind site; and 0. WHEREAS, Platte River Power Authority's proposal specifies that a purchase power agreement must be negotiated and presented to City Council as a purchase power contracr.before any binding financial or contractual commitments are made on behalf of the City of Aspen's electric utility; and WHEREAS, the City's purchase power agreement with Municipal Energy Agency of Nebraska (MEAN) must be amended to permit the sale of wind powered energy to the City and MEAN has expressed its willingness to do so on terms favorable to the City; and WHEREAS, there has been submitted to the City of Aspen a Proposal for Sales of Energy from Wind Powered Resources, a true and accurate copy of which is attached hereto as "Exhibit A"; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ASPEN, (' COLORADO: That the City Council of the City of Aspen hereby endorses development of wind energy and accepts Platte River Power Authority's Proposal for Sale of Energy from Wind Powered Resources ~ a copy of which is annexed hereto and incorporated herein, and hereby authorizes the City Attorney ~, ~, and staff to negotiate purchase power agreements with Platte River Power Authority through the Municipal Energy Agency of Nebraska, subject to City Council's review and approval. INTRODUCED, READ AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Aspen on the Ldayof ,~998, S.
