HomeMy WebLinkAboutcclc.minutes.04212004COMMERCIAL CORE & LODGING COMMISSION MINUTES OF APRIL 21, 2004 Chairperson, Bill Dinsmoor called the meeting to order at 8:30 a.m, Commissioners in attendance: Terry Butler, Andrew Kole, Marc Breslin and Eric Cohen. John Starr and Mark Goodman were excused. · Wildwood School - Julie Case said they couldn't provide a "baby sitting" situation at the Saturday Market due to liability. They will work with making things in the Park for 15 minutes to 1/2 hour with the parents. They will do tie-died T-shirts, jewelry etc. The tent will be manned by volunteers from the school and all of the materials have been given to them. They do not have any expenses. Andrew 'said Wildwood has the spot where Seth was last year. Julie asked if they could come later in the day to man the tent. Eric said 8:00 a.m. isn't the peak time but people will be there. Eric said all non-profits should be ready to be set up by 8:00 and stay till 3:30 in conjunction with all of the other vendors. Julie agreed. Marc inquired if the parents pay in advance for the craft. Julie said she hadn't thought of selling space in advance. Marc said as long as they put the disclaimer out to make parents aware of the liability that will cover them. Julie said they want to commit until Sept. It is difficult to get teachers here after school starts. Andrew said they need to be there through Labor Day. Maggie and Marc said kids were at the market through Sept. and October. Andrew suggested the teachers keep the money instead of giving it back to the school. That way the park would be full through October. Eric asked how many teachers would be there each Saturday. Julie said 2 but they have a back up of two in case someone gets sick. Bill asked how many children they could hold for one event. Julie said probably 12 are the max. with a 15 to 20 minute turn around. Andrew said Julie could hire someone to manage the booth after school starts. Julie asked if she could sell Paradise bakery cookies. The board said no. Eric suggested having board members donate things. Andrew suggested that a poster be made for Paradise Bakery. Staff asked for clarification of what Judy Haas can sell: Prayer flags, OK. No jewelry. Ceramics, prism pull downs and cards are permitted. Catalyst: Andrew said Lisa Baker is the catalyst. The BID person is from Iowa. She is very organized. Water Issue: Andrew said Zele will sell water to booths. CCLC suggested Zele come to the next meeting to see how they propose to sell the water at the market. Discussion on food demonstrations: Should the restaurants be allowed to sell their sampled product after the demonstrations in the park. Some board members felt that it is too competitive with local restaurants even though the food demonstrations are done by local restaurants. MOTION: Andrew moved that we do not expand into the lunch hour and have the restaurant sell their luncheon demonstration; second by Eric. Motion carried 3-2.
