AN ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING A PAY SCHEDULE FOR ALL POLICE DEPART-
MENT EMPLOYEES WHICH SCHEDULE ESTABLISHES MINIMUM AND MAXIMUM
SALARIES FOR EACH POSITION CLASSIFICATION AND AUTHORIZES THE
CHIEF OF POLICE TO PAY ANY EMPLOYEE A SALARY WITHIN THE GIVEN
MINIMUM AND MAXIMUM AMOUNTS; FURTHER PErmITTING THE CHIEF OF
POLICE TO AUTHORIZE PAY INCREASES AT ANY TIME WITHOUT REGARD
TO STATUS OF THE EMPLOYEE OR LENGTH OF SERVICE; AND FINALLY
REESTABLISHING THE LONGEVITY INCREASES OF THREE (3%) PERCENT
AND ONE-~LALF ('½%) PERCENT AS PRESENTLY REQUIRED BY

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF ASPEN, COLORADO:
Section 1
That the Municipal Code of the City of Aspen, colorado,
is hereby amended by adding a section which said section reads
as follows:
"Sec. 2-93 Position Classifications and Pay Schedules
of Police Department Employees
The provisions of Sections 2-76 and 2-91
to the contrary notwithstanding, the city Manager
is hereby empowered to authorize salaries for all
police department employees within the following
minimum and maximum amounts according to the given
position classifications and to grant pay increases
within said minimum and maximum amounts at any time

during an employee's tenure without regard to
whe~er the employee is probationary or the time
of the last pay increase authorized for such employee.

Every police department employee in a permanent status
shall receive in addition to the base salary provided
for above a three (3%) percent longevity increase upon
commencing his or her second year of employment, and
a one-half (3~%) percent increase for each

year of uninterrupted service thereafter. Ail
longevity increases shall be awarded on the
anniversary date of employment and shall be
authorized even if such increase results in a
salary above that shown as a maximum salary in
the schedule above. Hourly rates to be used as
a basis for overtime pay and deductions for each
hour of lost time during which pay is not author-
ized shall be calculated according to Sec. 2-76(d),
and the overtime pay rate shall be determined by
Sec. 2-76(f).
Section 2
If any provision of this ordinance or the application
thereof to any person or circumstance is held invalid, such invalid-
ity shall not affect other provisions or applications of the
ordinance which can be given effect without the invalid pro-
visions or applications, and to this end the provisions or applic-
ations of this ordinance are declared to be severable.
