AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE PROVISIONS OF THE ASPEN MUNICIPAL CODE
SO AS TO PROVIDE FOR THE IMPOUNDMENT OF STRAY CATS WITHIN THE
CITY; PROVIDING FOR THEIR CONFINEMENT, MAINTENANCE, DISPOSITION,
REDEMPTION OR DESTRUCTION BY THE POUNDMASTER; AND FURTHER SET-
TING CHARGES FOR IMPOUNDMENT AND STORAGE
WHEREAS, the City council has been advised that, on
occassion, catS have strayed or been abandoned and require im-
poundment, and
WHEREAS, the Aspen Municipal code contains no provision
to authorize the confinement or destruction of such animals and
the council wishes to establish procedureS to this effect,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE cITY cOUNCIL OF
THE cITY OF ASPEN, COLORADO:

is hereby amended by adding a section which said section reads
as follows:

pound animals may impound any cat that appears to
be stray or abandoned within the city of Aspen.
When any cat is impounded, the poundmaster shall
keep a record noting the breed, color and sex of
the animal, and make reasonable effortS to notify
possessor, or person who keeps the
the owner,known, and if not kno%n, to post at the

description of each cat and when and where caught.
A charge of four ($4.00) dollars is hereby made
for the impounding of any cat, and an additional
charge of four ($4.00) dollars per day is hereby
made for each day. or part thereof, the cat is

That the Municipal code of the city of Aspen, Colorado, is
hereby amended by adding a section which said section reads as
follows:

for a period of five (5) days after the owner, if
known, has been notified or reasonable efforts of
notification have been made, or for a period of five
(5) days after the date of posting in the event the
owner is unknown. If at the expiration of such time
the cat shall not have been redeemed, it may be
destroyed or otherwise disposed of, at the discretion
of the poundmaster."

If any provision of this ordinance or the application thereof
to any person or circumstance is held invalid, such invalidity
shall not affect other provisions or applications of the
ordinance which can be given effect without the invalid provisions
or applications, and to this end the provisions or applications
of this ordinance are declared to be severable-
