AN ORDINANCE REPEALING AND REENACTING CHAPTER 6
OF THE ASPEN MUNICIPAL CODE CONCERNING BICYCLES;
PROVIDING FOR VOLUNTARY REGISTRATION OF BICYCLES
WHEREAS, the City Council desires to repeal the
existing provisions of Chapter 6 of the Aspen Municipal Code
and to reenact Chapter 6 of the Aspen Municipal Code with
recommended changes for the benefit of the City of Aspen,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF ASPEN, COLORADO:
Section 1
?hat Chapter 6 of the Aspen Municipal Code entitled
"~icycles" be repealed and reenacted to read as follows:
CHAPTER 6
BICYCLES
Sec. 6-1. Application for Registration.
Each application for a bicycle registration, or for a
transfer thereof, shall be made to the police depart-
ment on a form approved by the chief of police. Such
application shall set forth the name and address of
the owner, a description of the bicycle, the name of
the manufacturer, and the serial number appearing on
the frame of the bicycle.
Sec. 6-2. Registration Fee.
No fee shall be required for registration of bicycles
pursuant to this chapter.
Sec. 6-3. Issuance of Registration Decal.
Upon application, the police department shall ingrave
an identification number on the bicycle frame and issue
a registration decal for each bicycle.

Sec. 6-4. Renewal.
No renewal of bicycle registration shall be necessary.
Sec. 6-5. Responsibility on Transfer of Title of Bicycle.
When the bicycle has been sold or ownership transferred,
the bicycle may be registered in the name of the person
to whom such sale or transfer was made.
Sec. 6-6. Records to be Kept by the Police Department.
The police department shall keep a record of the regis-
tration of all bicycles.
Sec. 6-7. Replacement of Stolen, Lost or Mutilated
Decals.
Whenever an issued registration decal is lost, stolen
or mutilated, a replacement (registration) decal may
be obtained from the police department.
Section 2
If any provision of this ordinance or the application
thereof to any person or circumstance is held invalid, such
invalidity shall not affect other provisions or applications of
the ordinance which can be given effect without the invalid
provision or application, and to this end the provisions of this
ordinance are declared to be severable.
Section 3
A public hearing on the ordinance shall be held on
June 13 , 1977, at 5:00 P.M. in the
City Council Chambers, Aspen City Hall, Aspen, Colorado.
INTRODUCED, READ AND ORDERED published as provided by
law by the City Council of the City of Aspen, Colorado, at its
regular meeting held on the 23rd day of May , 1977.
