HomeMy WebLinkAboutordinance.council.020-66RECORD OF PROCEEDINGS ORDINANCE NO. 20 (Series of 1966) 100 Leaves AN ORDINANCE PROHIBITING POLLUTION OR CONTAMINATION OF THE WATER SUPPLY OF THE CITY OF ASPEN, COLORADO BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council of the City of Aspen, Colorado: Section 1: (A) It shall be unlawful for any person to place, dump, throw, discharge or deposit any substance or material which will, in any manner, pollute or contaminate the waters of Maroon Creek or CastlD Creek or Hunter Creek, or their tributaries for a distance of five (5) miles around or above the intake points of the water utility of the City~ of Aspen, or to have, keep or maintain, at, along or near the banks of Maroon Creek or Castle Creek or Hunter Creek, for a distance of five (5) miles around or above the intake points of the water utility, any building, privy, pen, yard, corral for stock, or to have, keep or conduct any busines~ near such creek as aforesaid which will contaminate or pollute the waters of said creeks or render the same unfit for domestic use. (B) It shall be unlawful for any person to throw or discharge into any waterworks of the City of Aspen, Colorado, including all reservoirs, streams, ditches, inlets, pipes, drains, filters, sedi- mentation basins or other equipment or appliance used in the construction, maintenance and operation of same, any obnoxious substance which is sub- ject to decay in or pollutes the water. (C) It shall be unlawful for any person to allow any livestock, or any animals of any kind, to graze within 100 yards of any open waterworks of the City of Aspen, including all reservoirs, or collection points of water for distribution, streams, trenches, inlets, pipes or drains. Section 2: Because of the matters and things hereinabove set forth, the city Council of the City of Aspen, colorado, hereby finds, determines and declares that an emergency exists, and that this ordinance RECORD OF PROCEEDINGS 100 Leaves -2- is necessary for the immediate preservation of the public peace, health and safety.
