HomeMy WebLinkAboutresolution.council.006B82RECORD OF PROCEEDINGS 1 O0 Leaves RESOLUTION NO. ~ (Series of 1982) WHEREAS, the Nuclear Arms Race between the United States and the U.S.S.R. is escalating to an unacceptable new level; and WHEREAS, no nation or people can be winners in such a race, which threatens the survival of civilization; and WHEREAS, the level of U.S. military spending is affecting the domestic economy by aggravating federal cite, high interest rates, unemployment, inflation and causing a slow down in basic industries such as housing. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ASPEN, COLORADO: Section 1 That it does hereby endorse a mutual nuclear weapons freeze between the U.S. and U.S.S.R. on all further testing, production, and deployment of nuclear weapons and of missiles and the new air- craft designed primarily to deliver nuclear weapons. Section 2 That we hereby petition the President of the United States, and the United States Congress to endorse such a proposal. Dated: Herman Edel, Mayor I, Kathryn S.
