Commercial Core & Lodging Commission
Recycling Ordinance
The Commercial Core & Lodging Commission is represented by businesses
and lodge owners in the downtown core. The CCLC met with
Environmental Health staff several times to review the recycling ordinance
for its content and to make recommendations. The CCLC as a whole is a
strong proponent for recycling. Members of the board discussed the
ordinances with businesses and lodge owners and have unresolved issues.
· Each business will have at least three additional recycling containers.
If you have 30 businesses in the alley this makes for an unsightly alley
and the CCLC is concerned about increased alley furniture and the
appearance of our alleys since we are a tourist city.
· The increased number of trucks going through the alleys is also a
concem.
· The cost for one business could be upwards of $2,000 per year.
· How is residential recycling going to be implemented.
· Recycling should be addressed in all re-development land use cases.
· CCLC feels recycling compactors would work better in the alleys.
The City could issue encroachments licenses for particular areas in the
alleys.
