RESOLUTION NO.~-~/
Series of 1975
WHEREAS, the Planning and Zoning Commission for the City
of Aspen has entered into a resolution recommending and
encouraging the purchase of the McCullock properties in
Hunter Creek Valley by the U. S. Forest Service for use as
public domain land, and
WHEREAS, the Aspen City Council did, in its Resolution
No. 4, Series of 1972, dated March 27, 1972, also recommend
and encourage the purchase of the Hunter Creek Valley for
use as public domain, and
WHEREAS, the City of Aspen continues to recognize the
unique natural features and recreational potential of Hunter
Creek Valley as it has, in the past, been constantly used for
hiking, riding, cross country skiing and camping by the
citizens of Aspen and its visitors, and
WHEREAS, the City Council is apprehensive that if such
land is privately developed it would create overuse on other
nearby public lands and would adversely effect the equilibrium
of the City of Aspen and the attempts by its officials to deal
with growth related pressures, and
WHEREAS, the failure of the Forest Service to purchase
said property at this time has caused the members of the City
Council to fear that the purchase will not be made and that
it is necessary to again make known their resolve that the
U. S. Forest Service purchase the Hunter Creek Valley as
soon as possible.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of
the City of Aspen, that the U. S. Forest Service be advised
and actively encouraged to purchase the McCullock properties
in Hunter Creek Valley for use as public domain land and to
