HomeMy WebLinkAboutresolution.council.013-69RECORD OF PROCEEDINGS 100 Leaves__ RESOLUTION NO. 13 Series of 1969 WHEREAS, many citizens of the City of Aspen, Colorado have expressed concern over possible immediate and long- range dangers of the scheduled underground nuclear explosion at Rulison, Colorado, September 4, 1969, and have set up a public hearing for Friday, August 29, 1969 to discuss the details concerning this experiment using a 40 'kiloton nuclear device; and WHEREAS, no apparent national emergency exists concerning the need for natural gas. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Aspen, Colorado, hereby urges that full consider- ation be given by the Atomic Energy Commission, the various private corporations involved in the nuclear explosion and the Governor of the State of Colorado to postpone the experiment until fears of personal safety are allayed through widespread public discussions throughout the State of Colorado.
