HomeMy WebLinkAboutcclc.min.09212005COMMERCIAL CORE & LODGING COMMISSION MINUTES OF SEPTEMBER 21~ 2005 Chairperson, Bill Dinsmoor called the meeting to order at 8:30 a.m. Commissioners in attendance: Shae' Singer and Mark Goodman. Stan Hajenga was seated at 9:45 a.m. Excused were John Start, Don Sheeley and Terry Butler. Allegheny Meadows said the craft vendors need to be self governing among themselves, similar to what the farmers do. David Powers said that the interaction with the City is critical. We need a detailed job description of the market manager. Is it necessary for the market manager to attend all CCLC meetings. Mark Goodman said he was displeased with how the farmers acted regarding Sustainable settings issue. Andrew Kole pointed out that Sustainable Setting used their local influence to get in. They did not follow the farmer's rules. Market changes: Independent oversight Governing Board is imperative Booth costs. One or two booths for local businesses. The local business must sell what they sell in their stores. The store must have a store front in order to be in the market and have a City of Aspen Business license. Early drop out - how do we choose from the list. Different method of tax collection. Staff recommended that there be a $100. deposit for sales tax up front. CCLC supported that decision. If sales tax is not paid then the vendor will be asked not to return to the market. David pointed out that the market is here to help nurture and help businesses succeed. Discuss advertising on the front range. COMMERCIAL CORE & LODGING COMMISSION MINUTES OF SEPTEMBER 21, 2005 Mark Goodman said the market is the biggest traffic generator for Saturday's. David said his personal view is that the market works well where it is right now. We should keep it there until a group of merchants is so vocal that they want the market moved. Mark said the first meeting was far misrepresented. No one further west on the mall was represented. The purpose of the market is to produce life in the core and provide service to our guests. Bill said the ACRA should be engaged on what the market mission is. Stan recommended that we blast a fax to all the lodges on Friday as to what is up-coming for each Saturday. Grand fathering David pointed out that having some anchors in the market is critical. Criteria: Personality Professionalism Appearance of booth Quality of product Allegheny pointed out that nurturing artists is a goal at the market. Mark recommended that if a vendor was in before they should have preference the following year. He supports giving people priority. Shae' suggested that service booths be allowed on the street.
