HomeMy WebLinkAboutresolution.hpc.011-1973STOF PRESERVATION CO>DIITTEE P' J.~LUTI~ RECOmmeNDING TP~T T~ HISTORIC SIGNIFICANCE OF T[~ MAIN STP~ET CORRIDOR WITHIN T}~ CITY OF ASPEN BE INVESTI- GATED IN ORDER TO ASCERTAIN IF IT QUALIFIES UNDER SECTION 24-9.1 OF T}~ MUNICIPAL CODE FOR DESIGNATION AS AN H, HISTORIC OVERLAY DISTRICT. ~t~P£AS, the Historic Preservation Co~nittee is responsible for the protection and preservation of structures, combinations of structures, sites and areas of historic significance and value within the City of Aspen, and WHEREAS, the Main Street Corridor contains many historic sites and structures that contribute im- measurably to the character and image of Aspen as a re- sort people come to visit, and WHEREAS, the prescribed method for protection and preservation as outlined in Section 24-9.1 of the Municipal Code is to designate said structures, combina- tions of structures, sites and areas as H-Historic Over- lay Districts, and WHEREAS, the procedure for H-Historic Overlay District designation is a lengthy process because of the research necessary and approval hearings required, NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Historic Preservation Committee hereby recommends that the Main' Street Corridor as shown on the attached map be con- sidered for designation as H-Historic Overlay Districts, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Historic Pre- servation Committee intends to proceed with the research and investigation required prior to said designation as quickly as time allows. ~~j~, ~~, .
