HomeMy WebLinkAboutresolution.hpc.010A-1976RECORD OF PROCEEDINGS 100 Leaves RESOLUTION Historical Preservation committee Recommending that areas adjacent to the Commercial Core be designated as Historic Overlay Districts. WHEREAS, the Historic Preservation committee is responsible for the protection and preservation of structures, combinations of structures, sites and areas of historic significance and value within the City of Aspen, and WHEREAS, areas of substantial historic character exist adjacent to the present Commercial Core historic district, and WHEREAS, these areas contribute to the historic character of the city by demonstrating the relationship of existing and former residential areas to the Commercial Core, and WHEREAS, the historic structures in these areas are threaten- ed by demolition and replacement with structures which could detract from the historic appearance and integrity of the area, and WHEREAS, the historic character is an important contribution to the image of the City as a resort and, as such, to the economic strength of the community, and WHEREAS, the prescribed method for protection and pres- ervation as outlined in Section 24-9.1 of the Municipal Code is to designate said structures, combinations of structures, sites and areas as H-Historic Overlay District, and WHEREAS, the procedure for H-Historic Overlay District designation is a lengthy process because of the research necessary and approval hearing required, NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Historic Preservation Committee hereby recommends that areas adjacent to the Commercial Core as shown on the attached map be considered for designation as RECORD OF PROCEEDINGS 100 Leaves H-Historic Overlay Districts, and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Historic Preservation Committee recommends that the Planning and Zoning set a date for the joint public hearing as soon as possible.
