RESOLUTION OF THE
ASPEN HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMITTEE
RECOMMENDING }~ISTORIC DESIGNATION
FOR THE EAGLE'S BUILDING
WHEREAS, The Aspen Historic Preservation Committee is in
receipt of written consent to historic designation made by
the owner of the building known as The Eagle's Building
(situated on the northerly 32 feet of Lots K and L and the
northerly 30 feet of Lot M in Block 95, Aspen), and
WHEREAS, a preliminary investigation and review indicated
that said structure is appropriate for historic designation
in that the structure has historical importance:
1. The structure has character, interest, and value
as part of the development and heritage of the City of
Aspen;
2. Exemplifies the cultural, economic, social, and
historical heritage of the community;
3. By its preservation, promotes the health, safety,
and welfare of the present and future inhabitants of
the community.
Further, that the structure has architectural importance:
1. Portrays the environment of a group of people in
an era of history characterized by a distinctive archi-
tectural style;
2. Embodies the distinguishing characteristics of a
significant and unique architectural specimen;
3. Contains elements of design, detail, ~aaterials, and
craftsmanship which represent a significant architectural
style.
Further, that the structure has geographic influence:

1. Jecause of being part of or related to a distinctive
area (adjacent to the City's proposed Independence Square),
the building should be preserved according to a plan based
on an historic architectural motif;
2. Due to its unique location, the building represents
an established and familiar visual feature of the City.
i~OW, ?HEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Aspen Historic
Preservation Committee finds that historic designation of the
Eagle's Building is appropriate and hereby urges the Aspen
City Council to assign such designation to the structure.
