Worcester DATE: May 22, 2000 RE: Resolution Calling for a Special Municipal Election - Aug, 8, 2000 There has been some discussion amongst members of Council to place a ballot question on the August primary election. In that the City Charter requires that special elections be called no less than 60 days before the proposed election date, your May 22, 2000, Council meeting may be the last oppommity to call for the special election. Attached for your review and consideration is a resolution that, if adopted, would establish August 8, 2000, as a special mumcipal election date. The resolution merely calls for the special election, but does not submit any ballot questions. The attached resolution does not require the City to proceed with the election if no ballot questions are actually submitted. If ballot questions are prepared, approved by Council, and submitted to the County Clerk, the attached resolution would authorize the requisite special election to allow the electorate to vote on them on August 8, 2000. If you have any questions, please let me know. cc: City Manager City Clerk
