TO 'l'~ ASPEN CITY COUNCIL RECOMMENDING THAT THE
RED ROOF INN BE TEMPORARILY USED FOR DORMITORY HOUSING
Resolution No. 87-10
W~REAS, the Aspen Planning and Zoning Commission (herein-
after "Commission,,) recognizes that there is an immediate
shortage of low cost dormitory housing for the community's
employees; and
with finding
housing; and
the Commission is aware of the difficulty involved
an acceptable and appropriate site for dormitory
WHEREAS, the Commission is aware that the current zoning of
the Red Roof Inn site is for Golf Course Support and, therefore,
may need to be addressed in order to allow dormitory housing as a
temporary use; and
W~REAS, the City owned Red Roof Inn is currently vacant and
in the process of being sold; and
WHEREAS, the Commission agrees with the City Council that
the Red Roof Inn is not a permanent solution to the dormitory
housing issue; and
WHEREAS, the Commission does feel, however, that the vacant
Red Roof Inn can provide the opportunity for temporary relief to
the shortage of low cost dormitory housing.
NOW, TB~KEFORE, BE IT I~ESOLVED by the Aspen Planning and
Zoning Commission that the Commission recommends that the Aspen
City Council allow the Housing Authority to use the Red Roof Inn
for dormitory housing until the City sells this facility.
APPROVED by the Commission at its regular meeting on
November 17, 1987.
