Re: Recommendations on the Development of the Aspen
Area Transportation System
WHEREAS, Pitkin County and the City of Aspen received funding
assistance from the Urban Mass Transit Administration in July, 1976
for some $197,780.00 to study alternative transportation systems for
service in the Aspen area, and
WHEREAS, it was felt necessary to establish a separate Citizens
Advisory Board to review the reports and recommendations of consultants
in the development of transportation alternatives and this Board was
constituted on August 25, 1976 by the City Council of Aspen a~d the
Pitkin County Board of Commissioners and did include eighteen indivi-
duals representing organizations of diverse points of view and did
involve an appointed member of this Commission, and
WHEREAS, it was felt that the work and time requirements for
sufficient citizen review of consultant work on the transportation
alternatives analysis was of such a degree as to require a Board above
and beyond the normal duties of the County Planning Commission, and
WHEREAS, on April 19, 1977 a full report of recommendations from
the Citizens Advisory Board were presented at an official public meeting
of the Aspen Planning and Zoning Commission.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Commission supports the
policies recommended by the Citizens Advisory Board as a valid initial
approach to resolution of local transportation problems and, further,
that the Commission will continue to review and comment upon and help
to refine the more detailed recommendations of the CAB final report.
