HomeMy WebLinkAboutresolution.apz.004-76RECORD OF PROCEEDINGS 100 Leaves JOINT RESOLUTION (Series of 1976) ?~EREAS, the Historic Preservation Committee has investigated the historical and architectural importance and geographical influence of the Mesa Store Bakery and the Floradora buildings and WHEREAS, these buildings are important physical examples of Aspen's arch~tectbr~ of the mining era and remain as a part of the City's ~ heritage, and WHEREAS, the Aspen Planning and Zoning Commission has reviewed the documentation and the Historic Preservation Committee's recommendation for historic designation of these structures, and WHEREAS, the Aspen Planning and Zoning Commission finds that designation of these structures is consistent with the Aspen Area General Plan, is compl~mentary to the surrounding neighborhoods and is support.ive~ to the City's present con- sideration to establish as a Historic District those blocks fronting on Main Street between Monarch and Seventh Streets NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED , That the Historic Preservation Committee and the Aspen Planning and Zoning Committee recommend that the Mesa Store Bakery, formerly called the Gould and Grover Store, located on Block 30, lots R & S, and the Floradora, formerly called the Benjamin Ferris Residence, located on Block 37, lots P,Q,R & S be designated as Historic Buildings and Sites. WHEREAS, the proposed extension of the Aspen Mall represents a significant contribution to the pedestrian en- vironment in the commercial core of the city and, WHEREAS, the concept of the mall has been included in the planning of the City since the adoption of the Aspen Area General Plan in 1966, and WHEREAS, the mall concept is included as an integral element in the 1973 Voorhees Regional Transportation Plan for the CitS of Aspen and Pitkin CountS, and WHEREAS, the mall concept was incorporated in the adoption of the 1973 Aspen Land Use Plan, NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Aspen Planning and Zoning Commission supports the expansion of the pedestrian mall as proposed and recognizes that concerns of accessibility and convenience must be addressed, and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Aspen Planning and Zoning Commission intends to address these concerns in the near future by the review, recommendation and adoption of plans to deal with the problems of parking, public transportation, and mall maintenance.
