CITY OF ASPEN PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION
RESOLUTION NO. ~
Adoption of the Specially Planned Area Master Plan for the
City of Aspen Owned "Rio Grande" Property
WHEREAS, the City of Aspen purchased some 11.75 acres of land
formerly owned by the Denver Rio Grande and Western Railroad Company
on July 25, 1973, and
WHEREAS, in April of 1975, the land was zoned Specially Planned
Area by the Aspen City Council and such zoning requires the presentation
and adoption of a "precise plan" for the use and development of the
tract, and
WHEREAS, extensive and numerous planning studies have been
conducted with respect to the property to include: The Kravatski Survey
and Plan of 1974; the Aspen/Pitkin Planning Office Survey and Use Plan
of 1975; Interim Plan prepared by Greg Franta; and most recently, the
Master Plan now presented to the Board and prepared by the Aspen/Pitkin
Planning Office, and
WHEREAS, a public hearing was conducted on September 6th, 1977
and continued to October 4th, 1977, and many comments and recommendations
were received from interested members of the public and these recommenda-
tions did lead to specific modifications to the plan to include the
deletion of an S.C.I. tract of City owned land to be traded for a new
building site and the inclusion of access from Spring Street to the
proposed parking facilities.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Aspen Planning and Zoning
Commission hereby recommends the adoption and implementation of the
Master Plan as presented at the continued public hearing of October 4, 1977.
