Regular Meeting
April 9,1985
1:00 P.M.
City Council Chambers
Present were acting chair person, Mona Frost, Nick Pasquarella,Pat
0'Bryan, Connie Mc Crudden, Gretchen Greenwood, Marjorie
Riley,Colette Penne. Excused were Georgeann Waggaman, Mary Martin.
The meeting opened to the preliminary review of facade renovation
of the Building, formally Staats. Architect Charles Cuniffe, and
one of the owners Bill Hewitt.
Charles Cuniffe...the old name of the building was called the
Wheeler Block, and they wish to rename the building, showing the
building held that name in 1891. They wish to put a peice of
terra cotta on top of the building that would have the orginal
name than opposed to giving it a new name.
They wish to clean up the building and add a few elements to the
side of the building, the building gives the feeling of being
boarded up and they wish to open thed store front such as the
Baggage Claim, Optical Shop, or shops like that.
One of the request is to add a cap to the building, which is done
on a lot of old buildings in town, this would be with keeping
with a building of its age. The building is drawf by the other
buidings around it.
Ail the wood will be taken off the store front, and some structural
work needs to be done, that will then be covered with wood trim
as shown in the drawings.
Nick Pasquarella...were they going to take it down to the orginal
paint color. And the idea of opening it up to store fronts is a
good improvement.
Cuniffe...There will be panels at the bottom, the door will be
indented as the one at Chestnut Run.
The hope to use a four color range for the colors, it will be
blues or greys or tans or maybe some yellows.
There will be awnings on the building like the buildings around it.
The windows above would remain the same as they are now.
The top case will be of a cap and some rod iron on the sides.
Connie Mc Crudden... a great improvement.
Gretchen Greenwood...would the vents be removed?
