BRAND BUILDING WALl. PAINTING--GAARI) MOSES
Moses, up dated the members on the project, HPC has given
conceptual approval for the painting of the Brand Building alley
wall, applicant now asking approval of colors, showing the board
pictures of the graphic art, samples of eagles, banners, silver
queen, with the theme being the Patriotic Sons of America.
Aspen had two camps site for the Patriotic Sons of America, and
are still in exsistence at Valley Forge,The patriotic Sons of
America as far as Moses can determine was set up after the
Revolutionary War.
Mona Frost asked if a picture could be found of the other
picture that had been painted on the building.
Moses said that he thought he could but that he felt the picute
was old but not historic, it was done sometime in the 30"s.
The Brand Building will be on the National registry, if it is not
already, and there did not seem to be any problem with the wall
painting with them.
Bill Drueding said this is not in the sign code and will need to
go to Council, and will need the recommendation of HPC and its
approval, this is considered a graphic painting not a sign,
because it will not relate to any building inside the Brand
Building.
The size will be like the one on the Crystal Palace, 13 feet 7
inches by 16 feet 4 inches high.
The colors will be muted and can be seen in the Planning office.

What is being asked is.. is the Marlot Barn compatible on the
property of the Stallard House, and HPC feelings on a conceptual
level. The Historical Society is very interested in having this
building moved to the Stallard property.
If the barn is moved it could be a building used for the period
of history that men could relate to, engines, argiculture,
ranching, and mining.
The Marolt barn was once the Aspen Lixivator works, at the end of
the silver crash the building started to deteriorate.
The under part of the building will not be rebuilt, and is not
part of the building, but a crawl space.
The Historical Society is trying to buy the corner parcel, which
is privately owned, beside the Stallard House property. Their is
also the gardens of the Stallard House, which are rented out for
weddings etc. that help finance the Historical Society.
Blomquist said he would like to see the old garage torn down and
replaced with a porch the way it use to be.
Also the plan is to have two bathrooms installed for better
public usage.
Landscaping will be done to hide and shelter the neighbors, so
the barn will not be that visible.
Blomquist went into the hopes, for the 20th Century Museum and
what hopefully they wish to reflect for this period of our history.
What Blomquist is asking for is title to the barn for the Historical
Society.
If the private property is purchased the little house would stay
and be used as offices, and a caretaker to live on site.

The feeling of the board is to encourage City Council to support
the plan of moving the Marolt barn to the location of the Stallard
property to be used as part of the nineteeth century
historical heritage of Aspen. This is a conceptual presentation.
