Excused Georgeann Waggaman, Nick Pasquarella, Mona Frost,Mary Martin. Meeting Opened: FINAL REVIEW-WHALE OF A WASH Public hearing and final review of the Whale of a Wash redesign, Bruce Sutherl and. Second floor addition, and nothing has changed since the preliminary using the same brick, and they will not be putting on awnings on the second story, but the applicant wishes to come in later with the choice of window color. Greenwood asked if the mechical equipment would be hidden on the roof. Sutherland stated there is a three foot parapet above the roof, that brick will go up,Oasis, up to the top on the east side and at the back,that should hide anything on the roof. The windows will be a anoidized,pivote windows. The applicant said that the trim might be a silvery green, the beige choice of awning color with Public Hearing opened: no commit. Public Hearing closed. Zoe Compton moved to approve the second floor addition, redesign of the Whale of a Wash, 415 E. Main Street,the brick being the same, and the choice of color be brought to HPC when chossen. Seconded by Marge Riley, all in favor, motion carried. MOGUL SHOP AWNINGS AJAX MOUNTAIN BUILDING,520 E. DURANT 1 Historic Preservation Committee Special Meeting October 15,1985 City Conference Room The window is about 6 1/2 feet and they wish to have the awning come out about four feet, and then have the "Mogul shop" printing on the valance in white, on the red.. Aspen Canvas is doing the job. There is a very bad glare problem even with the tinted windows. The members asked who flags where by the shop. The applicant stated the flags where the Mogul Shop's. Margie Riley moved to accept for preliminary review the awnings as shown for the Mogul Shop red with with white printing. Seconded by Pat O' Bryan; The applicant stated that he has recived a letter from Steve Marcus, stated that he like the color and choice of awnings and this is his building. Vote called. All in favor , motion carried. This will be put on the November 12th final review process. Awning and new opening Cowenhen Asking for approval, for final hearing before the schuduled Public Hearing, November 12th. The applicant stated he would like to have final for this project because of the time restain for Preliminary approval was given. approval given his client. Gretchen Greenwood said she felt that the awning was to close to the ground. The applicant said he has changed the awning and the new one projects away from the building about nine feet. The stairs come out from the building about 3 feet, and with the problems of snow and the snow melt the cleint did not want the snow and water to melt right in front of the steps. Greenwood said this does not look like a victorian awning, the arch, it is to long and narrow. Z oe Compton said she would like to see the awning in more with the portions of the building, and soften. 2 Historic Preservation Committee Special Meeting October 15,1985 City Conference Room The orginal awning was 9 by 12 feet, now they are asking 9 by 9. The members felt it was over sized for the building. The recess entrance as presented in the preliminary the memebrs were in favor with, and a awning but not the size and shape as they are presenting now, or in the preliminary review. Marge Riley moved to approve for final review the recess entrance, as presented in the preliminary review process, and has not changed from that meeting, and final approval for the awnings will be continued to Public Hearing on November 12th. Pat O"Bryan seconds, all in favor, motion carried. Hamilton House Charles Cunniffee public hearing and final review for the changed entry way, addition of a kitchen at the back,windows added to the bedroom on the second floor level, which had no windows, also the study,which faces Aspen Mountian. The enrty way was on the front, and the old owners added a porch in 1968, and added a different entrance, the house is 1891-3. The porch will be wrapped around the house, and the kitchen changed into a den, and doors that go into that,the windows will be mostly french doors,and will have double glass ,the front door will be victorian. The color scheme will be changed also. The ceiling will be opened up and added a big arch window in,and french doors , and a window on each side. they would be all wood doors. Hamilton wants this to be put on the National registry. Compton said she felt this was to much alterration to be in keeping with historic part of the house. Greenwood said that it is a reconstruction, but a reconstruction should be built the way it used to be, this is adding more details and changes that were not there before. She likes the looks of the plans, but feels that with the changes should not be added or continued on Aspen list of Histroical houses. The applicant said it could be listed as a excellent victorian building, but not historical. Historic Preservation Committee Special Meeting October 15,1985 City Conference Room Colors: Aspen Painting- made up the samples of the three shades of peach,and a forest green. The body of the house will be a light peach. Colors can be seen in the planning office. Public Hearing opened: No commit. Public Hearing closed. Zoe Compton moved to approve the Hamilton residence for design changes in architecture and color and modifactions,seconded by Margie Riley, Discussion: Compton said as far as the national registry it has been changed to much as far as she feels, it is beautiful, but no longer historic. Applicant Cunniffee agreed. Greenwood said she did not think with all the changes that it should be on Aspen list of historic houses either. All in favor, motion carried. Wheeler Square Building Don Fleisher...this is the old Mason and Morse Building. This is where the HUb bicyle shop is, the opening the applicant would like to close and put a door in there to have more of a building entrance type look stated Bruce Sutherland. The door will be flush,same type of wood. Showing the memebrs the plans, the mebers decided to vote preliminary and final because the board felt it was a minor change. Pat O'Bryan moved to approve for preliminary and final review the change of entrance to the entry of the Wheeler Opera, seconded by Zoe Compton, all in favor, motion carried. Espree-Tom's Market Harry Teaque asked the board for conceptual, but the board was out of the time they allowed for this meeting and asked that Harry Teaque to plan for the next meeting which will be Novemebr 12th. 4 Historic Preservation Committee Special Meeting October 15,1985 City Conference Room Meeting adjourned. 5
