Excused were Georgeann Waggaman, Terry End, Marjorie Riley, and Gretchen Greenwood. Nugget Lodge Old Business: Public Hearing : Nugget Lodge Public Hearing and final review of facade changes for the Nugget Lodge, Dave Gibson. Dave Gibson put site plans up for the members to review. Mary Martin asked why the name was being changed? The owner Bob replied after taking a survey, many people response was it was a cheaper hotel in Las Vegas on the strip, and the the owners wanted no association to that so they are changing the name to "The Hotel Aspen". Dave review the information of last meeting, which was the form of the building, the new skin, and the new features, as well as the color scheme, there were several minor changes that HPC had request, They have found some nice artifacts in Denver area, and have come up with some nice cast iron plaques, they would like to i~corporatethese around the entry area; Elevations: The members asked for more richness, at the top of the parapet they would like to add a one by six with a half by three inch lentals, and a one by three under that, so you would have a one foot to a fourteen inch band that touches the top of each of these tall elements, front entry, and each of the elements that stick up, and these are to be done in red wood, and stained will be the same, with a slightly different color of grey on redwood. Dave said looking at the construction drawings you can see the plaques are worked into the entry area, showing the drawings, one showing the columns and one with out, they could not find some nice stone columns, these would be wood columns if used, and stained to match the rest of the building, and about 8 to 10 inches around. The owners and Dave agree that there might be to much going around with the columns ,there is another plan they like better, and that is with no columns just with a square peirs comming all the way to the ground, and this is ther~ choice. Around these plaques which would be painted the accent, like the ban around the building, would be a further accent of tile work around, the tile would be 3 by 6 inches, centered around each plaque, and little more tile at the front door, the tile is a wine red, that compliments the burgundy accent. Zoe said that deleting the columns and using all the plaques, that would be nice and keep it clean. Dave shown the materials to be used, the cedar with the lite gray stain on, a sample of the moss rock, and the roofing; Zoe Compton moved to approve the changes of the Nugget Lodge presented by Dave Gibson today, are exceptable to the commission, that the plaques go all the way around and not the columns, Nick Pasquarella second, discussion: Public Hearing open, and closed. Mary Martin asked about signage, the signage will be in following with the code, ~ave replied. All in favor of the motion, motion carried. and Awnings RP's Zoe compton will be asked to monitor the Nugget Lodge, now know as "The Hotel Aspen". Colette Penne will keep the samples in the Planning office. New Business: Consideration of need awnings at RP's, Colet~e reading the letter from Richard Perez, about the request. "the purposed awnings are to be installed on the south side exposed towards Wagner Park. They will project four feet, over the side walk and will be eight feet from the ground level, They wish to have five individual awnings over the five south windows to give the building a continuity. Concerning signage we have total disreguarded the subject...the color choice is either #1200 green or #1203 red for HPC to consider." These awnings will be used only from Memorial day to Labor day. Colette said she went over and looked at this, the awnings that they have up right now are metal and kind of a rusty color, and they arc falling apart, this is where the coke machine is and the tables, either color would make it more dresser; Zoe said that she would like to see the red used, because of the coke machine. Mona asked why would they come down in the winter? on the south side; they could fold them up at night something. If the sun comes in ~ or Bill Drueding said that on looking at the drawing, they could not have these awnings with out going through an encroachment license, because they are not claspible; Colette said that she felt that if RP's was informed they had to be claspible, they would make them so. Bill said he did want the report to show that on public property they do have to be claspible for a building permit, or get an encroachment license. The members discussed the choice of the two colors, red seem to be the favorite of the members because of the uniformity. Nick Pasquarella moved to approve the awning plan as proposed, with the occurrence of the building departments requirements, the color red, Zoe Compton second the motion, discussion, none, all in favor, motion carried. Mary Martin asked the members if they would consider the choice of changing the roof at their house, their choice is to change from a wooden shingle to a composition asphalt shingle, this is the same type approved for the Glidden house, the color will be the same gray brown, the pitch will not change. Colette said it was good that Mary brought it up, but that since this is the same type of roof approved for the Glidden house, and the color will not change, that it will be alright since the member have been told. The meeting for HPC for August will be as stands now the 7th and the 21 st. The work session will be held in late August. Discussion between the members: The minutes for the June 26th were approved. Mona Frost asked the report show she had an excused absence for that meeting; Meeting adjourned.
