Regular Meeting Historical Preservation Commission Feburary 9,1982
Bill,Clark, Chairman, called the meeting to order at I:08P.M. with members
Marjorie Brenner,Nick Pasquarella,Mona Frost, Coleete Penne from Planning,
and Bill Drueding from the Building Department.

Bill Clark asked that the minutes of January 26, be corrected
for spelling and the resolution to Council also be, Marjorie
so made the motion, Nick Pasq~rett~,second the motion...All
in favor...Motion carried.

Jim Belfont Pitkin County Maintenance Manager stated that the
County wanted to put a flag pole of 25 feet in height,bronze
color anodized aluminum.
It was also mentioned that most flags are allowed to fly for
24 hours a day now.
Mona Frost made the motion to approve the flag pole, Nick
Pasquarella, secondedthe motion, all in favor, Motion carried.
The flag pole issue with Harley Baldwin, Collette ~enne said
was asked to be held up, People 's Magazine and some other people
were interested in d~ing some stories Ashley Anderson,itto~ney
for Harley Baldwin, said to Collette.
The committee has put it through preliminary review without
Harley Baldwin, with conditions,which will come up at a
Public Hearing, when a date is set.
A letter from Arthur C. Townsend, saying that the dark fiberglass
shingle was appropriate in the opinon of the State Historic
Preservation Office.

The committee then discussed several different things,the
Resolution for control of color in the Historic Overlay
District, also Landscaping, the advantages of having the
Ordinance for Posting Notice on propterysuch as the Board of
Adjustments has, the members then decided to have a work session,
get three or four topics get as much information on them,
then get together with Council in a work session.
Bill Clark said that the Oriental Rug Co. should be referred to thc
building department and not this committee.
Collette Penne, Planning, mentioned that the Red Onion wanted to
chan~? some space that has never been improved to commerical
use, ~n conjuction with what they are building, a new unit
on the second story.
There is a provision in the code, and one on Main Street,
that if these places are individual designated they can do a
certain convers[~ to commerical use without going through
GMP so it is to their advantage to be individual designated,
to the Historic District.
A~,~Ot~n was made by Nick Pasquarella, that the Red Onion,
A~pen Supply, The Independence Building:~ and St. Mary's
Rectory be so designated to the Historic District; Mona
Frost seconded the motion..All in favor ...Motion carried.
