HomeMy WebLinkAboutminutes.hpc.19821012RECORD OF PROCEEDINGS 100 Leaves Historic Preservation Committee regular meeting October 12~ 1982 The Historic Preservation Committee held its regular meeting October 12, 1982 in the Council Chambers; Present were Bill Clark, Nick Pasquarella, Connie McCrudden, Gretchen Greenwood, Steve Marcus, Terry End, Colette Penne and Bill Drueding. The first item of business was color consideration for the ~rospector Lodge presented by Herb Paddock and the vice president of construction for Mycel Developement, Dick Baxster, out of Denver for Hans Cantrup with the compl~te~on date of December 7th of this year, , Both en~rys are sub grade level, one on the north elevation. Two colors have been approved by the HPC,a~si~ver grey, which is completely out of the running now, and a shag bark brown on cedar siding; Since the orginal approval, the siding is now a redwood siding and would like to use a stain. Terry End moved to approve the #567 dark brown stain by KWAL for the Prospector, and seconded by Steve Marcus, all in favor, motion carried. The relocation of the fire house bell by Paul Hemley; The bell is now on the roof of the firehouse, and would like to have the bell l~cated off to the side of the building, about 4 1/2 feet from the drive; The bell will be mounted on concrete, two concrete peirs of sorts, 1 foot wide and 5 feet long and about 1/2 foot out of the ground, probably the clapper will be removed. The bell will set in the park like effect between the firehouse and the building now in progress for the t~ri£t.shop. Nick Pasquarella moved to approve the location of the firehouse bell for the volunteer fire department to be mounted in concrete and set in tlle park, Gretchen Greenwood seconded the motion, all in favor, motion carried. The brass door treatment for the Aspen Arcade Building, by Jerald Rowe formal~ known as the Pitkin County Dry Goods, Asking for , to cover the painted surface on the doors on the Galena Street side with a polished brass sheeting and a clear oak trim; The shop will have brass and oak insided. The members felt this was not an victornian effect,at ~ll~and has been historica~ designated as a building; Terry End said she felt a site visit was in order before she could made such a motion, for a brass door in the commerical core. The committee felt new oak doors finished in the natural wood, would be a good way to ~ go, with brass hardware~could be accepted. Nick Pasquarella moved for conceptual approval for an oak door with brass hardware for the building at 308 South Galena, Terry End seconded the motion all in favor, motion carried. Colette Penne talked to the members on the suggestion to Council for a resolution, or ordinance of the ~lanning and ~ing ~)mmission recommending amendments to the Chapter 24, Article IX, Historic Designation of the Aspen Municipal Code; Ordinance 55 series of 1982. The HPC requested two sections of the code to be changed, copy of ordinance follows minutes. meeting ajourned.
