Meeting called to order by Mayo~ Garrish with Councilme~ Braun, Beyer, Anderson and James, Treas- urer:~John Hall and Attorney Stewart present. Ninutes of the April 4 meeting were read and approved. City bills payable read -' B~l 1 s payable of~ the Electric and Water Departments aisc read. Motion made by Anderson seconded by James - that E~zle 19 be suspended and ~ity bills be paid as read. Carried unanimously. T~m Sardy gave a r~ to Council an the financ~sl set-up of the Airport, and plans for future dev. elepment. Discussion f~owed in which it was suggested that more available information in Denver about the service would be helpful. Mr. Sardy requested that $1000.00 for the Airport be included in Motion- $10OO.00 the budget for 1961. A motion was made by B~yer seconde~d by Anderson - that the $1000.OO provided to Airport in the 1960 budget be alloted to the Pitkin Oounty Airport ImprOvement Fund. Carried unanimously. The matter of including this amount in 1961 budget to be considered later· Reference was made to the moving of the waterline under the Pitkin County Hospital and C. H. Anderson said it .would~ be moved. Ken Isaacson inquired about the payment of the Hotel-Motel Inspector!s fee to Councilman James. The consensus wa~ that this is provided by Ordin~uce. Payment of fee had been made in accordance with past procedure. Clyde Clymer came in interest of the rare Department, and requested that City take steps to repair the fire siren tower in the West end of town. Discussion followed,, and consideration will be given Fire siren to having the Fire District assume some of the cost. Clerk instructed to look up contract with Pecjak, tower-West ~d and it was suggested that bids be called for. Mr. Clymer said the ~ire DePartment was opposed to four story buildings, until such time as there wasan increase in the number of firemen and more adequate equipment. Mr. Winge.t. of the Washington National Insurance Company explained the Group Insurance coverage of- Group Ins. ferred by the Uolorado Municipal ~ea~me. This turned over to the Insurance~ Committee for reference to employees · The matter of trimming of trees was discussed, and it was felt that trees should be tr~mmed ~.ud bids are to be invited. Leonard Thomas was present, and gave a detailed account of a meet~_ug he had attended in Grand Junction in connection wit~ the State Highway Department, and requested an expression from Council as to having the highway approach straight i.~ on Main Street. Councilmen Beyer, Anderson and Braun favored this and Councilman James reserved Judgment for further information. The followin~ applications for hotel-motel licenses were read - Hillside Lodge and The Garret. Motion mad~ by Braun seconded by Beyer that licenses' be issued. Carriee~ unanimously. The Mayor read a letter from Kirchner, Or, shoe~ and Wiesner re~arding the signing and returning of the water bonds, and explaining a merger with Peters, Writer and Christensan. He al~o ~ead a letter from the University of Colorado regarding an Instltute for Mayors and Councilmen to be held in Boulder on April 29 and 3~. Bids for ~m.a.~-ntenance of City and Wagner Parks were read - Allen Benboe Best Way Cleaning Se~'vice, Park Maintenance $250.00 a month, jeff Kell, $375.00 a month. Auditor'~s contract - check ordinance to see if monthly closing of books in Electric Department by an auditor is required. Refer to Utility Board. Reports o~ Committees. Regarding request from Aspen Laundry for canopy and sidewalk variance - they have been granted by VarianCe-Aspen the Board of Adjustment a temporary variance on the canopy with them assuming all liability, under a Laundry - side ~vc~a~le license so long as public right is not infringed upon. Motion by James seconded by Anderson - to grant a revocable license for a sidewalk of a minimum width Of 42 inches, including a save harmless clause as to personal injury in favor of the City.
