HomeMy WebLinkAboutminutes.council.19620125 Aspen, .Colorado. _Special Meeting~ As~3~ C__~ity Council, January 25, 1962 The Aspen City Council met as a comm~u~ee of the Whole at 5:00 PM, with Council- men Moore, Beyer, Newell and Zordel, City Administrator Humphrey and City Building Inspector Markalunas present. ~ayor Garfish was absent. Upon ~otion by Moore, seconded by Zordel, Councilman Beyer was appointed Chair- ~ man. Shelter Mr. Beyer said the purpose of the meeting was to discuss the shelter hut placed Hut by Highlands Ski ar~a on City property, at the South side of Wagner Park on the public right-of-way, and extending about f6ur inches into the street. Jim Markalunas said he had issued a building permit on the assumption that Council had approved, because Mr. Pitts had referred plan to him and had told him that Council had approved it and wanted it run through proper channels. He issued a temporary permit until June 1, 1962. Coun~ilma~ Moore said there had been a mistake, and that the building should be put on private property. Discussed - maintenance of Wagner Park is under the Wagner Park Committee - and any offers of assistance should be referred to the Committee. Jim Markalunas said ~e had asked Mr. Sardy, Chairman ~f the County Commissioners, if building would be allowed on Wagner Park grounds, and Mr.~Sardy said this would not be permitted. Under discussion the following was brought out - the building is in the right- of-way, consequently this is not a matter for the Zoning Commission. Jim had referred this to Attorney Stewart who advised that this is a matter for Council consideration only. Council concurred with Councilman Newell ~hat they should go on record that Motion they would allow no building in the right-of-way. A moti6n was made by Zordel, remove hut. seconded by Newell, that the shelter hut must be removed from City property not later than 72 hours after notification to the owners by City Administratom Humphrey. Carried with Councilmen Moore, Newell and Zordel voting "aye". Councilman Beyer did not vote due to personal interest. The purchase of a calculator for the City Administrator's office was then discussed,ii and Mr. Humphrey said, that by trading in the adding machine in the City Clerk Motion- office, the calculatom and a new adding machine could be obtained for $617.00. A office motion was made.by Zordel, seconded by Beyer, to approve the purchase of the calculator machines, and the adding machine from the Plateau Typewriter Exchange for the amount of the !~.. bid - $617.00. Carried unanimously. The amount quoted by In~ermountain Printing and Stationery Co. on the two machines, with trade in, was $750.00 . Upon motion by Newell, seconded by Moore, the meeting was adjourned at 5:54 PM.
